GEORGE
BERTRAM WILKINSON, Corporal, 8th Battalion, Royal
Warwickshire Regiment, who was killed in action in France on May
4th 1915, was the second son of Mr S G Wilkinson,
formerly of Bank House, West Bromwich and now of Gravelly Lane,
Erdington.
He was at the school from January 1893 to Easter 1898.
His winning personality and enthusiasm for football gave
him a large circle of friends, and he carried into his military
duties the zeal and energy that he had shown in civil life.
His Platoon Commander wrote of his efficient, cheery and
industrious work and the affection felt for him by all ranks.
He was shot by a sniper while carrying a plank along a
trench.
His age was 33.
The Wulfrunian of March 1898 thus spoke of him:
“Has had no superior as school goalkeeper within our
memory.”
