JOHN
REGINALD SWALLOW, Second Lieutenant, 1st Battalion,
The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment, son of Mr Charles Swallow of
Penn Road, Wolverhampton, was born on June 13th 1888.
He joined the school in September 1900 and left in July
1906 to proceed to Cambridge, where he received an Honours
degree and obtained the Diploma in Education.
For some time he was English master at Palmer’s Green
Secondary School, London, and in October 1914 he obtained his
commission.
Going to France a year later, he took part in engagements
at Loos, Vimy Ridge and the Somme, and was killed in the attack
on Guillemont on August 8th 1916.
While at the school he gave great help to the 1st
XI in football, being a very fast wing forward.
He was also a member of the Cricket XI, and in the Sports
he won many prizes for running, walking and jumping.
