NOEL
REGINALD LOWDER (1903-1907 : 28), Second Lieutenant in the 1st
Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, was the younger son of Mr W H Lowder of
Paget Road, Wolverhampton. During
his time here he was known as an industrious and highly capable boy, and when he
left he became a student teacher in Birmingham. Hence he passed into the Civil Service and, after holding
posts at Hull and Liverpool, was appointed to the Custom House, London.
He made several applications for permission to join the forces but was
each time refused, so eventually he resigned and joined the Artists Rifles.
Easter 1916, found him in France and the following February he received
his commission. Two months later he
and some other officers were observed to have broken through the German lines,
and no more was seen of them. Unhappily
nothing has since been heard to qualify the official announcement issued on May
3rd, that Lowder was missing.
