LEONARD LAWSON, Private, 1/6th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, son of Mrs Lawson of the Briars, Merridale, was born on September 5th 1896, and was at the school from September 1909 to April 1912.  He enlisted as soon as war was declared and was sent to France in March 1915.  After the fierce fighting involved in the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt on October 13th 1915, he was reported missing, and it was some time before it was placed beyond doubt that he had been instantaneously killed.  He was a neat and clever player of football and had been a useful member of the 1st XI during his la st year at school.
