ALGERNON WILLIAM MOORE
(1892-1894 : 30), Private in the Royal Air Force, was a son of Mr Henry Moore,
Manager of the Spring Vale Furnaces of Alfred Hickman Limited.
He was born at Frodingham, Lincolnshire, in 1878, and came to the school
in 1892. On leaving he was for a
short time on the editorial staff of the ‘Evening News’ and then joined the
commercial staff of the Staffordshire Steel and Ingot Company, leaving this
after some years to found an iron and steel business of his own in Lichfield
Street, Wolverhampton. While still
engaged on his own account he conducted an agency for Tarmac Limited, with so
much acumen as to help very materially in placing the company in its present
prosperous position. His military
career was of the shortest, for it lasted but 10 days.
Called up in the autumn of 1918, he fell a victim to pneumonia almost
immediately and died in hospital at Steventon, Berkshire on October 28th
1918.
