Using Facebook in the Classroom

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

I’m always keen to make use of technologies which students are obsessed with – and one of the most popular is Facebook.

I had the idea that the “newsfeed” feature offered fantastic opportunities to produce timelines of topic-based events in an engaging way.

The concept is easily adaptable – just provide students with the first few events, then get them to decide on the rest!

Prezi: A Quickstart Guide for teachers and students

Monday, May 18th, 2009

PreziI am a big fan of Prezi – the web2.0 application that blows PowerPoint clean out of the water in terms of functionality.

I’ve been trying it out in class over the past couple of weeks and I’ve been very impressed with it.

I’ve put together a Quickstart Guide to Prezi which you can share with your colleagues and students to help them get started. It’s just two pages long – great for photocopying!

Prezis I have created (for example):
The Trial of King Charles I
Punishments on the Slave Plantations
Life on the Slave Plantations
